PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey team could not hold off a late rally by the visiting Boston College Eagles as the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Sophomore Lisa Rasmussen (Washington, D.C.) put the Tigers on the board at 3:57 of the first period with her fourth goal of the season. Senior captain Melissa Deland (Washington, D.C.) picked up an assist on the play.
The Eagles tied the game at 9:49 when freshman Heidi Seidewand (Groton, Mass.) scored off of assists from juniors Thia Connelly (Dedham, Mass.) and Genevieve Richardson (Monroe, Conn.).
Princeton regained the lead at 15:34 when Deland found the back of the net with her second goal of the season. Rasmussen and classmate Sarah Fox (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) registered assists on the goal. Sophomore Susan Hobson (Mississauga, Ont.) gave the Tigers what seemed to be a comfortable two-goal lead at 3:10 of the third period when she knocked the puck into the back of the net. Sophomore Angela Gooldy (New Hartford, N.Y.) and junior Nikola Holmes (Apple Valley, Minn.) assisted on the goal.
Unfortunately for Princeton the 3-1 lead would not hold as Boston College scored two goals in 17 seconds to tie the game at 3-3.
Richardson brought the Eagles to within one at 16:40 when she was able to sneak the puck past Tiger netminder Sarah Ahlquist (South St. Paul, Minn.). Seniors Missy Barsz (Walkertown, N.C.) and Jaclyn Kryzak (Altamont, N.Y.) assisted on the goal.
Sophomore Kaitlin McGrath (Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the game-tying goal at 16:57 when she collected the rebound off of an Alaina Clark (Alhambra, Calif.) shot and knocked it home to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into overtime.
Each team had several scoring chances in the extra period, but could not convert and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Ahlquist finished with 21 saves. Freshman Lisa Davis stopped 25 shots in goal for Boston College.
Princeton (2-3-2, 1-2-0 ECAC-N) will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 25 when it faces Connecticut at 2 p.m. at Hobey Baker Rink.
