Final Stats
Shreveport, La. - Allison Cahill scored 30 points in leading Princeton back from a 16-point first half deficit as the Tigers slipped past the Centenary Ladies in overtime on Friday night in Shreveport, La. Princeton won 88-80, improving to 6-4 on the season.
Cahill's 30-point performance comes two nights after she registered a career-high 28 points at New Orleans. Cahill made 8 of 15 shots from the field and led the team with four assists. Kelly Schaeffer scored 16 points while both Eileen Powers and Maureen Lane chipped in with 12 apiece.
"Allison Cahill was just super," says Coach Richard Barron. "Eileen Powers played great for us down the stretch and I'm very pleased with the way we finished." Centenary jumped out to quick 16-point lead that had the Tigers playing catch-up for most of the first half. Princeton slowly chipped away and cut the lead 43-38 at halftime. The Ladies pushed the lead to 62-51 with 9:44 left in regulation, but Cahill lifted the Tigers, connecting on 12 of 13 foul shots and knocked in two key free throws with 26 remaining in the second half to give Princeton its first lead.
The Tigers outscored Centenary 12-4 in the extra period to give Princeton its second straight win and wrap up its Louisiana trip with a 2-1 mark. Free throw shooting made the difference with Princeton knocking down 25 of 27 shots from the charity stripe. Centenary only shot nine free throws in the contest
The Tigers are now 1-1 in overtime games this year. Last season, Princeton won both of its contests in overtime, going 2-0 in games that went the extra period. Princeton is off for one week and returns to action at Manhattan on Friday, Dec. 28.
