Box Score
Riverdale, N.Y. - Allison Cahill scored 15 second-half points and Princeton outscored Manhattan by eight in the period, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 16-point halftime deficit. The Tigers dropped to 6-5 on the year with today's 63-55 loss to the Jaspers.
Cahill finished with 18 points while sophomore Kelly Schaeffer added 16 of her own, however, it was Manhattan's Mary Kacic who led her team to victory with 22 points. Kacic hit 4 of 6 three-point baskets while the rest of Manhattan's team went 0 for 7 from beyond the arc.
Princeton finished with a better field goal percentage, shooting 41 percent compared to Manhattan's 38 percent. The Jaspers jumped out to 9-0 lead and led by as much as 18 points, leading 30-12 at the 5:21 mark of the first half. Princeton turned things around in the second period, with Cahill's scoring spree and team points in the paint. The Tigers outscored Manhattan 12-4 in the paint in the second half. Cahill's three-point basket with 4:17 left made the score 50-45. Princeton would not get any closer. Manhattan maintained its lead with free throw shooting down the stretch. The Jaspers made 17 of 22 foul shots in the contest
"We showed some fight and cut the lead to five points in the second half," says Coach Richard Barron. "But right now we're not playing as a team. Until we decide to play as a team we will be just average like we are now at 6-5. If we work together and play as a cohesive unit, I feel this can be a very good team. We are far away from that right now."
The Tigers are now 0-5 when they fail to reach the 70-point mark. They are also 0-3 in day games this season. Princeton's only other sub-60-point output was in Seattle when it lost in the first round of the Husky Classic to Santa Clara. The Tigers scored 52 points in that game.
Princeton will play its first Ivy League game of the season when it travels to Philadelphia to face arch-rival Pennsylvania on Jan. 4. Game time is set for 12:30 at the Palestra.
