Tigers Open Indoor Track and Field Season with New Year Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers kicked off their indoor track and field season on Friday evening with the New Year Invitational, a non-team scoring event that took place in Jadwin Gym. More than 700 athletes from 13 schools competed into tonight's meet. Princeton got an early taste of what the conference competition will be like as Columbia and Pennsylvania both sent athletes to compete.
Tora Harris, (Sr., College Park Ga.) set a meet record with a jump of 7-3.5 or 2.22 meters, breaking his old record that he set in 1998 by 2 inches. With the crowd cheering him on, Harris, the only athlete remaining in the competition failed to clear 7-4.25 on three attempts. Sophomore Chelo Canino (So., Valrico, Fla.) set a new meet record in the women's pole vault with a height of 12'1.5", out distancing herself from second place Laura Chmieleski (11'9.75") of Rutgers.
John Karakoulakis (Jr., Mill Creek, Wash.) and Josh Kauke (So. Ridgewood, N.J.) finished 2 and 3 in the 500m run with times of 1:06.31 and 1:06.34. David Dean (Jr., Pegram, Texas) and Seamus Whelton (Sr., Glydon, Md.) also finished 2 and 3 in the 800m run with times of 1:54.39 and 1:55.38. Andy Craycraft of St. Joseph's captured the 800m title with a time of 1:54.39. Ryan Smith (Sr., Cumberland R.I.) captured the men's mile title with a time of 4:18.23. Princeton captured the top four spots of the 3000m. Lead by Tristan Colangelo (So., Glousester, Mass.) who finished in a time 8:24.42, Tigers Kevin Gallagher (Sr., Orangeville, Ont.) Jonathan Kieliszak (So., Warick, R.I.) and Michael Baird (Jr., Lancaster, Pa.) finished 2, 3, and 4.
Chanel Lattimer (Fr., Severn, Md.) got here collegiate career going with a bang as she captured the 55m dash title with a time of 7.22. Lattimer also placed second in the 300m dash with a time of 41.50, finishing behind Danielle Hobson of Rutgers by .08 seconds, Hobson finished first with a time of 41.42.
Liz Morse (So., Newport Beach, Calif.) finished in fourth place of the 500m run with a time of 1:18.25. Lauren Simmons (Sr., Nashville, Tenn.) captured first place of the women's 1000m in a time of 2:51.69 and Emily Smith (Sr., Denver, Colo.) finished in fourth place of the mile in a time of 5:24.24, Solomiya Login captured first (5:17.65).
