PRINCETON, N.J. - Josh McCaughey won the weight throw competition, provisionally qualified for the NCAA's and broke an 18 year-old record at the H-Y-P track and field meet on Saturday. His throw of 67' 6.75" was an inch better than the previous record of 67' 5.75" set by Princeton's Dave Pelligrini in 1983. Pelligrini was the NCAA weight throw champion in 1980.
Princeton took several other events and won the meet with 89 points to 43 for Yale and 38 for Harvard.
Tensai Asfaw won the 1,000 meters (2:28.26) and the mile with a time of 4:11.56. Cameron Atkinson won the 55-meter dash (6.38), Ryan Smith won the 500 meters (1:03.54), Robert Hulick won the 800 (1:53.97) and Mike Scanlon won the 5,000 meters (15:22.85). Tristan Colangelo placed second in the 3,000 meters (8:25.43) for the Tigers. Princeton won the 4x800 relay (7:49.72) and finished second in the 4x400 (3:20.64).
Stephen Wiley (6' 9.75") and Javius Wynn (6' 4.75") went one-two in the high jump and Jonathan Jessup won the pole vault (16' 10.75"). Rocky Craley won the shot put with a throw of 55' 8.25", Scott Denbo finished third (54' 3.75").
Princeton will host the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m at Jadwin Gym.
