Josh McCaughey Earns All-America in 35-lb. Weight Throw

Fayetteville, Ark. - Freshman Josh McCaughey (West Kingston, R.I.) earned All-America status in the 35-lb. weight throw with a mark of 64' 1" at the men's indoor track NCAA championships this afternoon. McCaughey placed 14th overall in an event that saw the top two finishers break the collegiate record.
The national high school record-holder in the 25-lb. weight throw, McCaughey earned first-team All-Ivy recognition with a throw of 66' 5.25" in the 35-lb. weight to win indoor Heps. He bested his nearest competitor by nearly nine feet to capture the title at the event. McCaughey placed sixth last weekend at the IC4A championships with a throw of 62' 0.25."
McCaughey also set the junior national record with a throw of 67' 10.75" at the indoor Princeton Invitational Feb. 17. He broke an 18-year-old meet record with a throw of 67' 6.75" to win the 35-lb. throw at the indoor H-Y-P meet and also won his event at a tri-meet with Penn State and Connecticut (64' 5"), the Penn State National Open (64' 11.5"), the Armory Collegiate Invitational (63' 11") and the New Year's Invitational (63' 8.75"). In all, McCaughey has won six of his eight collegiate competitions this season.
Dave Pellegrini '80 holds the school record of 69' 3.5", which was set at the 1980 NCAA championships.
