Tigers Host GST Open @ Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - Elite and college level athletes competed together in front of packed stands at the GST Open @ Princeton Invitational on Saturday. The track and field meet featured athletes from more than 30 schools and track clubs.
Five-time Olympic medalist Marion Jones, 2000 Olympic 400-meter hurdles and 4x400m relay gold medalist Angelo Taylor, 110-meter hurdles Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell and Olympic pole vault silver medalist Lawrence Johnson were just a few familiar faces to compete at the legendary Princeton Invitational as part of the Golden Spike Tour Open.
Princeton sophomore Laura Shackelton won the 3,000 meters with a time of 11 minutes, 24.04 seconds. Senior Kristi Rosso was just over four seconds behind in second place (11:28.29). Junior Lauren Simmons finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.87. Rebecca Desman was third in the high jump reaching 5' 6.50". Tora Harris was the top collegian in the men's invitational high jump with a height of 7' 5" matching unattached athlete Henry Patterson's height. Steve Wiley placed second but was the top collegian in the high jump (6' 9"). Senior Biren Roy was Princeton's top finisher in the 1,500 meters placing fourth with a time of 3:48.63. Liam Morton (209' 4") and Josh Probst (200' 6") finished second and third, respectively, in the javelin. Jeff Petrulis (52' 2") and Rocky Craley (51" 11") placed third and fourth in the shot put.
On Friday evening, Princeton freshman Ryan Teising finished fourth in the 5,000 meters (14:47.57) and Jeff DiChiara was seventh in the 10,000 meters (31:56.45). Sophomore Mike Baird placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:14.04).
Winners from the GST Open: Patrick Jarrett (10.22) in the men's 100 meters, Marion Jones (11.12) in the women's 100 meters, Terrence Trammell (13.43) in the 110-meter high hurdles, Michelle Freeman in the 100-meter high hurdles (13.00), Angelo Taylor (44.68) in the 400 meters, Leonard Mucheru (3:53.64) in the men's mile, Cheri Kenah (4:31.10) in the women's mile and Lawrence Johnson (19' 2.25") in the pole vault.
