Princeton's Men Place Second, Women Eighth at Outdoor Heptagonal Championships

Tora Harris, named Male Athlete of the Meet, set a meet record with a jump of 7' 5.25". The previous record of 7' 4.50" was set in 1991 by Brown's Terrance Ferguson. Harris was voted "outstanding performance" by the coaches of the competing schools.
Scott Denbo made his mark in Ivy League history by winning his fourth-straight outdoor heptagonals shot put title. Denbo's won the event with a throw of 59' 5.75". Adam Nelson, ranked the No. 1 shot putter in the world, was the last man to win the shot put competition four years straight.
In other field events, Princeton's Mark Smith placed second in the hammer throw and Liam Norton placed second in the javelin competition. Patrick Schottel placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.42. Sprinter Cameron Atkinson placed fourth in the 100-meter dash. Ryan Smith and David Dean placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 800-meter run.
Paul Morrison finished second in a tough 5,000-meter race, crossing the line behind Dartmouth's Tom McArdle. Ryan Teising placed second in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 30:28.85.
Lauren Simmons' 800-meter victory was a bright point for the women's team. The Tigers finished eighth at the meet with a score of 30 points. Brown took the women's title with a score of 132. Simmons beat Columbia's Erin Raggio by less than a second, crossing the finish line at 2:09.77.
Princeton's Catherine Casey, placed sixth in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:02.70. Emily Smith, Lauren Hofmann, Liz Morse and Lauren Simmons placed third in the 3,200 relay with a time of 8:59.11.
Rebecca Desman placed third in the high jump for the Tigers, clearing 5' 6.5". Susan Coltman finished second in the heptathlon scoring 5,051 points.
