Esmeralda Negron (Fr. Harrington Park, N.J.) put the Tigers up 1-0 in the 62 minute to lead Princeton to an eventual 3-0 victory over the Seawolves of Stony Brook. Princeton picks up it's forth win of the season and moves to 4-0 for the year as Stony Brook slides to 0-5-1. Coming off a recent 1-0 victory over Ivy League rival Dartmouth, Princeton has outscored their opponents 15-0 while registering four shutouts.
Play between the two teams was equal in the first half as the half time scoreboard remained blank. It took close to 15 minutes into the second half before Princeton registered the first goal of the game. Negron, positioned well in front of the net was able to redirect a cross coming from the left side from teammate Joan Cundey (Jr. Bay Village, Ohio). Less then two minutes later, Princeton's Alex Fiore (Jr. Garden City, N.Y.) played the ball to Krista Ariss (Jr. Burlington, Ontario) who made the net shake as she scored Princeton's second goal. Janine Willis (Fr. Unionville, Ontario) rounded out the Princeton scoring effort with a goal in the 74 minute, putting the Tigers up 3-0. Heather Deerin (Jr. Livingston, N.J.) was credited with the assist on Willis' goal.
Princeton keeper Catherine Glenn (Sr. Jacksonville, Fla.) had one save in tonight's match and picked up her second solo shutout. Glenn, on several occasions came out of the box to break up potentially dangerous situations. Lori Nelson, the Seawolves' keeper registered 8 saves in the contest.
"We didn't come out well in the first half, we were sloppy, In the second half, we played a little better and did some good things, " says head coach Julie Shackford.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 28 as they battle Columbia at 7:30 p.m.
