Princeton, NJ - April Brown scored two goals and added a pair of assists as the Princeton women's hockey team opened the 2002-03 season with a 5-0 victory over visiting Wayne State on Saturday afternoon in Hobey Baker Rink.
The Tigers (1-0) jumped out to a quick lead five minutes into the opening period, when Brown scored her first tallie of the afternoon, off a feed from Angela Gooldy. The Tigers increased the lead to 2-0 with just over four minutes remaining in the first period, on Brown's second goal of the afternoon. Team captain Nikola Holmes and 2002 Olympian Andrea Kilbourne were credited with assists on the goal.
Princeton increased the lead to 3-0 in the second stanza, when Anna Marie Holmes directed a Becky Stewart pass behind Wayne State goalie Tina Thibideau.
Stewart and freshman Tarah Clark scored the Tigers' final two goals in the third period. Kilbourn and Gooldy finished the afternoon with a pair of assists.
Princeton out shot the Warriors 40-11 on the afternoon, with senior goalie Sarah Ahlquist stopping all eleven Wayne State shots to earn the shutout. Thibideau finished with 35 saves for the Warriors, who fell to 2-3 on the season.
Princeton returns to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., when they face the Oilers of Findlay University.
