Lisa Rasmussen scored 30 seconds into overtime to lead Princeton past Mercyhurst 2-1 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Princeton and improved its record to 5-2-0.
Mercyhurst forward Aimee Collins scored her second goal of the season at 18:19 of the middle period to break a scoreless tie and give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers tied the game late in the third when, playing four-on-four, senior forward Nikola Holmes beat Mercyhurst senior goaltender Tiffany Ribble from in close to deadlock the contest at 1-1.
Princeton got the game-winner just thirty seconds into the extra period as forward Lisa Rasmussen scored on the power play. Rasmussen's shot came through a screen and caught the far corner as Ribble was moving right to left.
Ribble stopped 21 of 23 in the game while Princeton senior goaltender Sarah Ahlquist denied 23 of 24 Mercyhurst shots. Both teams were blanked on the power play; the Lady Lakers finished 0 for 6 while the Tigers were 0 for 4. Princeton now leads the all-time series 4-1 and has won all three meetings at the Ice Center.
