Princeton, NJ - Rebecca Stewart and Heather Jackson each scored third period goals to lift Princeton to a 2-0 victory over Findlay Sunday afternoon in Hobey Baker Rink.
The win improves the Tigers to 2-0 on the young season, with both wins being shutouts. It is the first time in school history that the women's hockey team opened a season with a pair of shutouts.
Princeton controlled play throughout the game, outshooting the Oilers 25-13 over the first two periods, but entered the third period in a scoreless deadlock. That changed when Stewart took a feed from Jackson and slipped it past Oiler goalie Erin Blair at the 4:31 mark to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Jackson added an unassisted insurance goal, the first of her collegiate career, with just over five minutes to play.
On the afternoon, Princeton goalie Megan Van Beusekom finished with 19 saves, while Findlay's Blair finished with 40.
The Tigers return to the ice this Friday night when they face off against Colgate at 7 p.m. in Hobey baker Rink. Admission is free.
