Maura Gallagher, who scored both of Princeton's goals as the Tiger women's soccer team clinched the Ivy League title with a 2-0 win over Cornell Saturday, has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Gallagher scored her two goals in a 2:03 span of the final four minutes of the first half in a snowstorm in Ithaca. The Tigers had gone 240 minutes prior to that without a goal.
The victory over the Big Red clinches at least a share of the title. Princeton has finished its Ivy League schedule at 6-1-0, while Dartmouth is 5-1-0 with a home game Saturday against Pennsylvania remaining. Should the Big Green win, they would finish as co-champions with Princeton. A Dartmouth loss or tie would give the outright title to Princeton.
Regardless of the outcome of the Princeton-Dartmouth game, Princeton has already earned the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by virtue of its 4-1 win over Dartmouth earlier this season. The NCAA tournament begins Nov. 15.
Princeton's game against Villanova originally scheduled for Oct. 16 will not be made up. The game was cancelled due to a rain and poor field conditions.
Princeton finishes its regular season at home against Colorado College this Saturday (4). The Tigers (13-2-0) can tie the school record for wins in a season, set in 1980 and tied last year, with a victory.
