Nov. 8, 2002
Joan Cundey, a senior tri-captain, was named a Verizon District II second-team Academic All-America. Cundey, a politics major, is from Bay Village, Ohio.
Cundey and the Princeton Tigers host the Colorado College Tigers Saturday in the regular season finale, after which they will look ahead to the NCAA tournament:
We are the champions - Princeton clinched at least a share of the 2002 Ivy League women's soccer title with a 2-0 win over Cornell last Saturday. Princeton would win the title outright should Dartmouth tie or lose to Penn this afternoon; a Dartmouth win over the Quakers would mean Princeton and Dartmouth finish tied for the title.
November madness - Princeton has already clinched a spot in the NCAA tournament field. The Tigers will get the Ivy League's automatic bid even should they tie for the championship with Dartmouth by virtue of a 4-1 win over the Big Green on Sept. 21. More madness - Princeton will learn its NCAA tournament draw Monday, when the field is announced at 4:30 on ESPNEWS. The tournaments first and second rounds will be held on 16 campus sites this Friday and Sunday (Nov. 15/17).
Hey, strangers - Princeton and Colorado College have never met before in women's soccer.
More strangers - Princeton and Colorado College have only met in one other sport (men's hockey) prior to today's game.
Cat fight - Princeton has never played a game in women's soccer against another school nicknamed "Tigers."
Snow kidding - Princeton's 2-0 Ivy-clinching win over Cornell last weekend was played in a driving snowstorm in Ithaca.
I'm honored - Maura Gallagher was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week last week after scoring two goals 2:03 apart in the final four minutes of the first half against Cornell.
Highly offensive - Princeton had not scored in 240 minutes before Maura Gallagher scored twice in a 2:03 span against Cornell.
Comparison shopping - Colorado College lost 3-0 to Dartmouth earlier this season.
More comparison - Colorado College and Princeton have both defeated Boston University by one goal.
D plus - Princeton has not allowed more than one goal in any game this season.
History lesson - Princeton has won 13 games. The program record is 14, set in 1980 and equaled last year.
Who are these guys? - Colorado College fields Division I teams in two sports: men's hockey and women's soccer. The Tigers are an independent in women's soccer.
Getaway day - Today marks Colorado College's final game of the season. The Tigers are 8-7-1.
Okay, smart guy - Princeton senior captain Joan Cundey was named a Verizon District II second-team Academic All-America this past week.
Young guns - Princeton has scored 27 goals this season; 22 have been scored by either freshmen or sophomores.
Poster child - Princeton goalkeeper Jean Poster has made 41 saves this season; 15 of those (37%) came in the loss to Harvard and the win over Cornell the past two Saturdays.
Working overtime - Princeton is 11-0-0 in games that have ended after regulation and 2-2 in games that have gone overtime this season.
Almost perfect - Princeton was the last unbeaten and untied Division I team before its loss to Harvard two weeks ago.
Back on track - Princeton lost back-to-back 1-0 overtime games (to Harvard and William & Mary) after its 12-0-0 start before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Cornell last weekend. How sweet it Es - Esmeralda Negron has scored five game-winning goals this season.
Moving up the charts Krista Ariss is tied with Mollie Marcoux '90 for eighth in career points at Princeton with 47; she needs two to tie Susan Mooney '82 for seventh and five to move into fifth place. Ariss is fourth in career assists (13), one away from tying Lynette Prescott '84 for third.
Top of the charts - With nine saves in Sunday's 2-1 win over Northwestern, Colorado College goalkeeper Meghann Loseke bumped her 2002 total to 152 and continued to build on her own single-season school record. Loseke earlier surpassed the school record of 139, set by Robyn Bilski in 1997.
Finishing strong - Colorado College has won five of its last six games and is 8-4-1 after an 0-3 start.
California dreaming - Of the 21 playes on the Colorado College roster, 10 are from California.
Coach speak - Colorado College coach Greg Ryan is 32-19-3 (.620) the last three seasons after going 8-9 his first year.
