Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Brooke Owens took the opening draw control and beat Harvard goalie Laura Mancini to give Princeton a 1-0 lead seconds into the game. The Tigers would dominate throughout and after all was said and done, Princeton had a 14-4 win and extended its win streak to 11 games.
Owens' goal was followed by junior Whitney Miller's 13th goal of the season only 21 seconds later. Senior Charlotte Kenworthy connected on her first of three goals at 4:22 and sophomore Theresa Sherry scored her team-leading 29th goal of the season to make the score 4-0.
Princeton controlled from the outset, winning each of the first six draw controls. The Tigers also continued to put points on the board. Junior Sarah Small scored for the second straight game to push Princeton's lead to five. Senior Lauren Simone followed with her 29th goal of the season to keep pace with Sherry and freshman Lindsey Biles knocked in back-to-back goals heading into halftime and the Tigers led 9-0 at the break. Biles picked up in the second half where she left off in the first. She scored Princeton's first two goals to start the half and tied her career-high goal total with four.
"I really felt comfortable today," says Biles. "I was really nervous at the start of the year as I think any freshman coming into a program like Princeton's. This is one of the best teams in the country and I'm just now getting comfortable."
Sophomore Julia Vinyard scored her first career goal at 48:17 to give the Tigers a 13-1 lead. Harvard scored three times in the game's final eight minutes, but it was Tara Hardiman's goal at 59:50 that sealed the scoring.
Biles finished with four goals, Kenworthy finished with three. Freshman Elizabeth Pillion ended the game with two assists while freshman Sarah Kolodner and sophomore Megan McInnis split time in goal. Kolodner started and played 20:54, giving up no goals and registering one save. McInnis finished with four saves and four goals-against in 39:06.
Princeton, ranked No. 1 in the IWLCA Poll, improves to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers remain unbeaten on the road this season and extend their win streak against Harvard to 10 games. The Crimson lose at home for the first time this season and fall to 4-5 on the year.
The Tigers return to Class of 1952 Stadium for a three-game home stand beginning this Wednesday, April 17. Princeton takes on Ivy foe Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
