Men and Women's Cross Country Open Season with Victories

Princeton, N.J. - Both the men and women's cross country teams opened their 2002 campaigns with victories at the Princeton battlefield. Princeton served as host to several local schools including Rutgers and the College of N.J. Sophomore Austin Smith was the top finisher out of all competitors, crossing the finish line in 25:16. Emily Kroshus was the top female Princeton runner with a time of 17:58.
In the men's race, Princeton had four top-10 finishes including Smith who took first place, Jeff Dichiara (3rd 25:30), James Flannery (6th 28:30) and Frank McCreery (7th 29:31). The women placed seven athletes in the top ten including Kroshus, who finished in third place, Meredith Lamber (4th 18:02) Sarah Rivlin (6th 18:17), Krystal Adler (7th 18:19), Pilar Marin (8th 18:22), Marian Bihrle (9th 18:22) and Kate Ried (10th 18:26).
Julie Culley took first among the female competitors, completing the 5000m run in 17:26.6, 15 seconds in front of second place Shelia Klick of La Salle(17:41).
Smith finished two seconds in front of second place Ryan Fennelly of La Salle (25.18)
The Tiger men return to action on Saturday, September 28 at the Paul Short Invitational held at Lehigh University. The women will compete in the Central Connecticut Invitational on Saturday, September 21.
