Tigers Battle to 4-3 Victory over No. 6 Providence

Providence R.I. - Freshman Tarah Clark scored her fourth goal of the season with 9:36 remaining in the match to put the Tigers up 4-3 over the sixth ranked Friars of Providence. Princeton, ranked tenth in the country, held the lead and earned the victory. The Tigers improves to 10-4-2 on the season and Providence slips to 10-5-3.
Providence struck first, scoring a power-play goal at 5:01 in the opening period but Lisa Rasmussen evened the score at 1-1 when she beat Friar goalie Jana Bugden at 6:14. Clark was credited with the assist.
Providence took a 2-1 lead midway through the first period on a goal from Gretchen Gottwald. Once again Princeton answered; this time it was Gretchen Anderson who found the back of the net on a powerplay. Anderson scored her team-high eighth goal of the season with 4:20 remaining on the first period clock. Annamarie and Nikola Holmes earned the assist on the goal. Providence opened a 3-2 advantage at 1:10 into the second period on a goal from Katelyn Laffin. Princeton's Heather Jackson pulled the Tigers even with a short-handed goal at 17:18 in the second. Princeton took its first and only lead of the match on Clark's third period goal as the Tigers earned the 4-3 win. Princeton played the 1:50 of the match down a skater, but the Tigers successfully killed off the power play.
Megan Van Beusekom recorded 16 of her 47 saves in the third and made several crucial saves in the closing minutes to keep the Tigers up.
The Tigers return to action when they host Brown on January 10 for a 7:00 p.m. match. The following evening, Princeton will take on top-ranked Harvard at 4:00 p.m.
