The Princeton field hockey team, which swept a pair of games in the Boston area this past weekend and clinched an NCAA tournament berth in the process, is ranked No. 8 in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll for the second straight week.
Wake Forest and Duke occupy the poll's top two spots, with the Deacons earning 22 of 24 first-place votes. Fellow Atlantic Coast Conference members Maryland and North Carolina are in the Nos. 3 and 4 positions, while Michigan is ranked fifth, Michigan State sixth and Penn State No. 7.
Iowa ranks one spot behind the Tigers, while Northeastern rounds out the Top 10.
The Tigers (11-3, 6-0 Ivy), who have won a season-high five straight games, earned at least a share of their 10th straight Ivy League title with a big 3-2 win at Harvard on Saturday. Then, while Princeton was routing Boston University by a 5-1 score Sunday, Yale defeated Penn in an Ivy League game in Philadelphia, clinching the league's automatic NCAA berth for the Tigers.
Princeton can complete its fourth straight undefeated league season by defeating Penn Nov. 7. The Tigers have now won 30 straight Ivy League games dating back to October 1999.
The Tigers play two ranked opponents in non-conference games this weekend, facing 14th-ranked William & Mary on Friday and No. 12 Old Dominion Sunday afternoon. Both games will take place on the ODU campus in Norfolk, Va.
