Cedar Falls, Iowa - Princeton women's cross country coach Peter Farrell was honored by the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (WICCCA) as the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. Farrell was honored at the NCAA Pre-Championship Banquet, held in conjunction with the NCAA Cross Country Championships, to be held on Monday, Nov. 25 at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa.
Farrell helped lead the Tigers qualify for their first NCAA Championships as a team. In previous years, Princeton had representatives race in NCAA's but 2003 marks the first time that Princeton will bring its top seven to race as a team entry. Princeton is currently ranked 14th in the nation and qualified for NCAA's by finishing second in last Saturday's NCAA regional qualifier in Lock Haven, Pa.
The Tigers opened 2003 by winning their first four events, the Battlefied Invitational, the Iona Meet of Champions, HYP and the Lafayette Invitational. Princeton finished sixth in the NCAA Pre-National's and then ran a close second to Columbia at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.
Senior Emily Kroshus leads the Tiger contingent, picking up wins at the Battlefield Invite, Iona and at HEPs, while sophomore Cack Ferrell put in tremendous efforts at Pre-Nationals and HEPs.
Princeton takes to the course tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.
