Esmeralda Negron is putting together one of the greatest careers in the history of Princeton women's soccer, with a resume of honors that is quickly catching up to her goal totals.
Negron, already the 2003 Ivy League Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection, was named a first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region choice by the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America.
Negron, a junior from Harrington Park, N.J., was joined on the first team by classmate Rochelle Willis, a defender from Unionville, Ont. Sophomore midfielder Emily Behncke of Williamsburg, Va., was named to the second team.
Negron tied the Princeton single-season record with 13 goals this season. She will enter her senior year next season with 27 career goals and 60 career points, both second-best all-time at Princeton. She will need 14 goals and 34 points to tie the two records, both held by Linda DeBoer '84.
Willis, who has started every game of her career, was also a first-team All-Ivy selection this past fall. In addition to her role on the defensive end of the field, Willis also scored a goal and had three assists this season.
Behncke went from being the 2002 Ivy League Rookie of the Year to being a 2003 first-team All-Ivy selection. She finished second behind Negron with seven goals in 2003, and she tied for the team lead with five assists.
