Track Teams Compete At Lions Invitational

Ewing, N.J. - Both the Princeton men and women competed at the 2003 Lions Invitational in Ewing, N.J. on Saturday. The men won six events in all and the women placed high in several other events on the day.
David Silver led a 1-2-3-4-5 Princeton finish in the 5k run while Peter Cioni and Brian Hancock won their events on the track. Silver's time of 14:56.44 in the finals edged out Frank McCreery (14:56.48) while Dan McKenzie placed third in 15:02.28. Cioni won the 1,500-meter run in 3:57.44 and Hancock took the 800 in 1:55.25.
In the field events, Drew Grant won the men's hammer throw and Matt Stucke won the javelin competition. Marcus Ford-Bey was also victorious, winning the triple jump with a mark of 43-05.25.
The women were led by Betsy Kennedy, who took the javelin throw with a distance of 119-01. Susan Coltman placed second in the long jump (17-10.75) and Christi Niehans placed second in the pole vault (10-06). Laura Landry finished third in the 200-meter dash.
The Tigers also had a couple men compete on the final day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Mark Smith won the college men's hammer throw with a toss of 190-03 and Tim Releford placed seventh in the javelin.
The Princeton men host the Broadmeade Invitational on Tuesday, April 29 and the women are idle until the Heptagonal Championships on May 3-4.
