Pfau, Deerin Join Women's Soccer Staff

Chris Pfau will continue his coaching career and Heather Deerin will begin her's at Princeton this fall. Pfau and Deerin will join the Princeton women's soccer coaching staff for the 2003 season, head coach Julie Shackford announced.
Pfau comes to Princeton after spending last year as the head coach at St. Mary's College, a Division III school in Indiana. Prior to that, he spent two years as the head coach at Mount Marty College in South Dakota, an NAIA school where he founded the program and also served as the softball coach.
A native of Fairfax, Va., Pfau played collegiately at Old Dominion and then professionally for 10 years in the NPSL, the A-league and in various other indoor and outdoor leagues. He has also worked with club teams and the Olympic Development Program while living in Cincinnati.
Deerin joins Shackford's staff after completing her career as one of the finest players in the history of Ivy League women's soccer. The 2001 Ivy League Player of the Year, she is one of 34 athletes in Princeton history to be a four-time first-team All-Ivy League selection. A native of Livingston, N.J., Deerin led Princeton to three Ivy League championships and four NCAA tournament appearances as a player. She twice was a regional All-America.
In addition to the coaching staff changes, Shackford also has finalized Princeton's 2003 schedule, which features games against six NCAA tournament teams. The Tigers will make a trip to California for a pair of September games and will play opponents such as Syracuse, Boston University and American in addition to the regular Ivy League season. Princeton also will host an invitational tournament on Sept. 12 and 14 featuring Princeton, Penn, St. Louis and UNC Greenboro.
