Box Score
Lauren Grumet had 22 kills and 15 digs and Alex Brown added 21 kills and six blocks as the Princeton volleyball team won a thrilling 16-14 Game 5 and came back from two games down to defeat Juniata, 3-2, in a non-conference match played at Dillon Gym Saturday afternoon.
Game scores were 26-30, 26-30, 30-26, 30-26 and 16-14.
Princeton (10-3) led 11-7 in the fifth and deciding game, but Juniata (17-3) rebounded to tie the score at 13-13 and 14-14 before the Tigers put together two final points. Princeton won the match when Ashley Weber's off-balance attack from the right side snuck over the net and eluded the Juniata defense.
The Eagles came out firing from the beginning and the Tigers, perhaps a bit tired from last night's 3-1 victory over Penn in an Ivy League match, started slowly. Erin Wisor and Katie Laucks led Juniata to a 30-26 win in a close Game 1, but the Game 2 victory wasn't as close as the score indicated as the Tigers hit -.087 for the game and trailed 21-9 at one point.
The Tigers began their comeback by taking an early 8-1 lead in Game 3, holding on for a 30-26 win. Game 4 was closer, but Princeton held on to force Game 5.
Princeton then took leads of 6-1 and 8-3 in the fifth game before Juniata rebounded.
Wisor and Laucks each had 18 kills for Juniata, while setter Carli Dale had a team-high 29 digs to go along with her 71 assists. Libero Jenny McReynolds had a team-high 35 digs for Princeton, which hit an impressive .300 (11 kills, 2 errors) in the decisive Game 5.
