Providence, R.I. - Sophomore Liz Keady scored two goals to help lead the Princeton women's hockey team to a 4-1 win over No. 10 Providence Sunday afternoon at Schneider Arena. Princeton (1-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak against Providence to eight games (4-0-4).
After a scoreless first period, Keady put Princeton on the board at 6:56 of the second period on a goal that was assisted by sophomores Laura Watt and Dina McCumber. Just over three minutes later, Princeton scored again with the eventual game-winner, off the stick of sophomore Alison Ralph, to go ahead 2-0. Ralph's second career goal was assited by senior co-captain Becky Stewart. Providence answered back 39 seconds later to make the score 2-1 on a goal from Sonny Watrous but could get no closer as the Tigers stretched out their lead to 4-1 with a pair of goals in the third period.
McCumber made it 3-1 on an unassisted tally, the first goal of her career, at 3:58 and Keady added an empty-netter with 54 seconds remaining to give the Tigers some breathing room. Junior co-captain Heather Jackson and Watt assisted on the goal.
Junior goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel picked up the win for Princeton after stopping 22 of 23 shots. She is now 1-0-1 on the year. Amy Thomas made 19 saves in a losing effort.
Princeton opens up the ECAC Hockey League portion of its schedule next weekend at home. The Tigers face Dartmouth Friday night at 7 p.m., and Vermont Saturday at 4 p.m.
