NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The women's volleyball team was one game away from a disastrous road trip, but the Tigers summed up a terrific effort and earned a 15-12 win in the fifth and decisive game to earn a 3-2 win at Yale Saturday night.
Princeton, which had fallen 3-1 at Brown Friday night, fell 30-26 in the opening game before bouncing back for wins of 30-26 and 30-23. An .083 hitting percentage in the fourth game doomed Princeton to a 30-18 loss and set up the fifth game. Princeton bounced back in the finale, hitting .375 in the game (11 kills, 2 errors) to earn a 15-12 win.
Lauren Grumet led Princeton with 20 kills, while Ashley Weber finished up a strong weekend with 15 kills, 26 assists and a .275 attack percentage. Lauren Loban chipped in with 17 kills, while Jenny Senske paced the offense with 55 assists. Libero Jenny McReynolds led all players with 47 kills, her second 40-dig effort of the last three weeks.
The win improves Princeton to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League. Princeton and Cornell are both one loss behind Harvard in the Ivy race; the Crimson pulled off a 3-2 home victory over the Big Red Saturday afternoon. Harvard will play at Princeton next Saturday, following a Friday night contest against Dartmouth Friday night at 7 p.m.
The victory gives Glenn Nelson 495 wins; he needs five more to become the fifth coach in Princeton history with 500 wins.
