UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior Austin Smith finished in a tie for third place, just nine seconds off the winning time, and junior Frank McCreery was close behind in 10th place as the Princeton men's cross country team finished sixth out of 23 teams at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional cross country meet at Penn State's Blue & White Golf Courses Saturday.
Smith and Villanova's Robert Curtis crossed the line at nearly identical times of 30:33, with Curtis being awarded third and Smith fourth. McCreery finished in 30:47, making Princeton one of just three teams at the meet to have two top 10-runners.
Junior Ben Stern finished in 32nd place overall for Princeton, running the 10-kilomter course in 31:48, while freshman David Nightingale had a strong performance in his first regional meet, placing 36th overall in 31:58.
Freshman Rob Grote also scored for the Tigers, placing 66th overall.
Georgetown had the top two finishers in Rob Koborsi and Chris Lukezic and won the meet with 49 points, outdistancing Washington, D.C. rival American by 14 points. Lukezic's time was just two seconds ahead of Smith and Curtis.
Penn, La Salle and Villanova rounded out the top five in the meet.
