The Princeton women's soccer team took some of the relevance out of its regular-season finale by wrapping up the Ivy League championship last Friday night in Ithaca. Still, when the 12th-ranked Tigers host Penn Saturday night (7) in the final game of the regular season, there will be much to play for. For starters, Princeton is coming off only its second loss of the season, a 1-0 overtime loss at Colgate last Sunday. For another, Princeton is looking to build momentum for next week's NCAA tournament. Lastly, Penn comes into the game 8-1-1 in its last 10 games - and having defeated Princeton a year ago ...
A league of their own - Princeton clinched the outright Ivy League championship last Friday night in Ithaca with a 7-0 win over Cornell.
More league - Princeton has won four Ivy League championships in the last five years, including two outright championships in three years.
Last league - Princeton has won four Ivy League championships in the last five years. Princeton won one Ivy League title in the 20 years prior to that. November madness - Princeton has earned the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will make its sixth straight NCAA appearance. Bids will be announced Monday (4:30, ESPNews).
Poll cats - Princeton is ranked 12th in the NSCAA coaches' poll and 12th by Soccer America. Princeton is ranked ninth by SoccerBuzz.
No place like home - Princeton has won a school-record 13 straight home games.
More home - The home team is 4-0-1 in the last five Princeton-Penn games.
Okay, smart guys - Maija Garnaas was named a first-team CoSIDA District II Academic All-America for the second straight year. Romy Trigg-Smith was a second-team selection.
In case you forgot - Penn defeated Princeton 3-2 last year as Katy Cross scored all three Quaker goals. Princeton outshot the Quakers 15-6 in the loss.
More forgot - Princeton defeated Penn 2-1 in overtime two years ago on Esmeralda Negron's goal. It was one of four career overtime overtime goals for Negron.
Last forgot - Princeton fell 1-0 to Colgate in overtime last Sunday, ending the Tigers 10-game winning streak.
How sweet it Es - Esmeralda Negron set Princeton records for goals in a season (14), points in a season (36) and points in a career (96) and tied the Princeton record for goals in a career (41) in Princeton's 7-0 win over Cornell Friday night.
More Es - Esmeralda Negron is tied with Linda DeBoer for the most goals in Princeton women's soccer history (41). The record for most goals in Princeton men's soccer history is also 41, held by Steven Davidson '69.
Last Es - Esmeralda Negron has scored more points in her career (96) than any other men's or women's soccer player in Princeton history. Can you spare a dime? - Maura Gallagher and Esmeralda Negron are tied for third all-time in assists at Princeton with 14. They need three to tie Kerry Shaw '85 for second and six to tie Kathleen Kobler '90 for first.
Money in the Behncke - Emily Behncke ranks eighth all-time at Princeton with 21 goals.
The whammy - A Princeton win over Penn would make the Tigers the fourth team in league history to go 7-0-0 in a season. No Princeton women's soccer team has ever had a perfect league season. For what it's worth - Princeton is 14-0 when it scores and 0-2 when it does not.
D plus - Diana Matheson has set a Princeton freshman record with six assists.
Minute-ia - Romy Trigg-Smith has played every minute of every game; she is one of 12 players in Division I to have done so.
Just win, baby - Princeton has tied the school record for wins in a season with 14, set in 1980 and equalled in 2001.
