Harvard Tops Princeton, 96-62, In Women's Hoops

Cambridge, Mass. - Casey Lockwood scored 14 points off 7-for-13 shooting and Becky Brown added 13 points and six rebounds in a 96-62 loss to Harvard at Lavietes Pavilion. Princeton dropped to 5-13 overall and 2-3 in the Ivy League while the Crimson improved to 9-9 overall and tied with the Tigers at 2-3 in the Ivies.
Harvard's Katie Murphy scored first with a three at 18:48 and Princeton immediately answered with a Katy Digovich jumper and a steal and a layup by Katy O'Brien. The Tigers only lead came when Casey Lockwood hit a 10-footer for a 6-5 Princeton edge before Reka Cserny sparked a Harvard run with the team's next nine points. The Crimson led 12-8 at the 14-minute mark and dominated for the rest of the half, leading by as many as 23 points. Princeton shut out Harvard for the final 3:14 and headed to the locker room down 48-29.
Harvard shot 8 for 12 (67%) behind the arc while the Tigers hit just 1 of 4 (25%). While 24 of Harvard's points came off threes, only one player (Cserny - 2) hit more than one. The Crimson bench combined for 20 points but Cserny led all scorers with 14 at the break. Harvard shot 55% from the floor; Princeton 46%.
Becky Brown and Digovich had eight and seven points for Princeton. Harvard outrebounded the Tigers 20 to 12 while both teams committed 13 first-half turnovers.
Lockwood scored eight straight points to start the second half but the basket remained wide open for the Crimson. Harvard shot even better from the floor, hitting 21 of 33 shots (64%) although Princeton held it to just one second-half three-pointer. The Tigers hit no threes in the half and finished just 1 for 5 behind the arc.
Princeton's only break came when it reached the bonus with over eight minutes to play but the edge was too little too late. The Tigers never came within more than 16 points of the Crimson in the second half and finished with its biggest deficit of the game.
Cserny and Peljto finished with 23 and 18 points for Harvard.
Princeton returns to action on its home court next weekend beginning against Cornell on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. The Tigers then host Columbia on Saturday at 7 p.m. following a festival celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
