McCaughey, Releford Compete at NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - Seniors Josh McCaughey, in the hammer throw, and Tim Releford, in the javelin, each competed for Princeton at the 2004 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track Championships at the University of Texas this past weekend.
Releford's javelin throw of 66.64 meters (218 feet, eight inches) was good for eighth place in his flight, but he finished 18th overall in the preliminary round and did not make the final 12 places that advanced to the final round. Boise State's Gabriel Wallin won the event with an impressive throw of 264 feet, nine inches, upsetting favorite Brian Chaput from Penn.
McCaughey's throw of 60.90 meters (199 feet, 10 inches) was also 18th in the preliminary round, and again only 12 throwers advanced to the finals. Manhattan senior Thomas Freeman won the hammer throw event with a mark of 232 feet, two inches.
