Women's Volleyball Places Second At Colgate Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Princeton women's volleyball team split its final two matches at the Colgate Invitational and completed a very impressive showing in its second weekend of the season. The Tigers swept Siena 3-0 to improve to 6-0 on the season before falling 3-2 to Big East foe St. John's in the championship match.
The Tigers got a major effort from senior Lauren Loban against St. John's, which improved to 5-3 win the win over Princeton. Loban, the Morgan State tournament MVP from the previous weekend, recorded 22 kills and 11 digs in the five-game loss. Her 22 kills was a team high, while Lauren Grumet added 16 kills and Alex Brown had 11. Jenny McReynolds had a team-high 29 digs, while Brittany Wood chipped in with six blocks. Jenny Senske had 55 assists to lead the offensive effort.
Princeton opened the match with a 30-25 win, but the Red Storm bounced back with back-to-back 30-26 wins. The Tigers took the fourth game 30-25 and stayed close in the fifth game, but St. John's had enough to pull off the 15-12 victory.
Earlier in the day, Princeton cruised to a 3-0 win over Siena (30-26, 30-18, 30-22). Brown led the way with 14 kills and a .379 hitting percentage, while Senske recorded 35 assists. McReynolds had 19 digs, while Loban recorded six kills, zero errors and two solo blocks.
Princeton will play its home opener Tuesday night when it takes on Lafayette at Dillon Gym. Tiger head coach Glenn Nelson now has 490 career victories and needs 10 more to become the third coach in Princeton history with 500 career victories.
