Box Score
The final weekend before Ivy play gave the Princeton women's volleyball team all the work it could ask for. The Tigers went to five games twice and ended 1-2 at the Rider Tournament, which included a 3-2 win against Big East member Seton Hall.
Rider 3, Princeton 1
Rider took out local rival Princeton in the opener. The Broncs won the first two games 30-25 and 30-26 before the Tigers rallied for a 30-28 win in the third game. Rider clinched the match with a 30-27 final game victory.
Lauren Grumet and Ashley Weber led Princeton in the first match. Grumet had 14 kills and 15 digs, while Weber had 13 kills and 13 digs. The Tigers were their own worst enemy to start the match, as they hit .098 in the first game and .000 in the second game. Rider, which outblocked Princeton 11-4, got a combined 40 kills from Stefanie Lombardo and Jaclyn Levi.
Princeton 3, Seton Hall 2
Princeton's eighth victory of the season came in an exciting win over the Pirates. The teams split the first four games, with Seton Hall taking 30-23 and 30-24 wins in the even games and Princeton taking 30-22 and 30-24 wins in the odd games. Fortunately for the Tigers, the trend held on into the fifth game, as the Tigers took a 15-11 win.
Defensive play was the key for the Tigers. Sophomore libero Jenny McReynolds had a career-high 43 digs, while senior Lauren Loban added 26 digs to her 21 kills. Grumet also added 21 kills, giving both of Princeton's outside hitters more than 20 kills in the same match. Middle blocker Alex Brown added 17 kills, while junior setter Jenny Senske had a weekend-best 51 assists.
Delaware 3, Princeton 2
The Tigers' tightest match of the weekend finished in disappointing style for them, as the Blue Hens rallied from a 2-0 deficit to claim the win. Princeton earned 30-25 and 30-17 wins in the first two games, but Delaware bounced back with 30-23 and 30-17 wins in the next two games. The fifth game extended past the 15-point mark, but Delaware claimed the match with a 16-14 win. Princeton ended the weekend with an 8-3 record for the 2004 season.
Brown had 13 kills and zero errors for Princeton, while Grumet had 16 kills and 17 digs. Senske had 44 assists. The Tigers made a total of only five errors in their first two games, but they made 17 in the final three. Valerie Murphy led Delaware with 23 kills and a .377 attack percentage.
Princeton will travel to the Palestra Friday night to open its 2004 Ivy League campaign against three-time defending champion Penn. The Quakers, who lost four seniors from last year's team, defeated Princeton 3-1 in the final match of last season to eliminate the Tigers from the league race.
