Easton, Pa. -- Junior Becky Brown and the women's basketball team showed to be well rested after 20 days of no games as they blew past Lafayette 82-72 Tuesday night at Allan P.Kirby Sports Center. The Tigers improve to 8-5 on the season and increase their win-streak to six games, while the Leopards fall to 3-15 on the season. Brown had a game high 24 points and sophomore Casey Lockwood added nine off the bench in her first night of action after recovering from a torn ACL last season. Junior Katy O'Brien nailed an open look from behind the arc and forced Lafayette to take a time out as Princeton jumped out to a 17-9 lead at the 13:38 mark.
Inside the six minute mark the Leopards went on an 10-2 run sparked by Lindsay Myers's eight points. Princeton regained momentum and led 43-28 at halftime. Lafayette came out of the locker room with a 12-2 run and cut the lead to 12 at the 14:28 mark following a steal by Kris Doherty that led to a fast break basket for Tricia Indoe. On the next play junior Ali Smith made a three but Myers wouldn't let Lafayette go down without a fight. Meyers scored two quick baskets but the games momentum shifted back to Princeton, once again. Junior Lauren Nestor made a jumper at the 8:32 mark that paced Princeton back up 71-53. Sophomore Elyse Umeda found Brown under the basket and gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game, 79-56 with 5:38 remaining. Myers matched her career-high 22 points and scored six points in the final five minutes but it wasn't enough to lift Lafayette. O'Brien scored 16 points and was 4 for 8 from beyond the arc. She also had eight assists and four steals in the game. Freshman Meagan Cowher had 11 at the half and finished with 15 points. Lockwood scored all nine points and grabbed a rebound in four minutes during the first half of the game. Princeton shot 54% in the game and limited Lafayette to 44%. The Leopards out-rebounded Princeton 34-30. Princeton continues road play as they open Ivy League action at Brown on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
