Schmidt Scores Twice as Field Hockey Shuts Out Brown 3-0

Princeton, N.J. - Sophomore Paige Schmidt scored twice to lift the Princeton field hockey team to a 3-0 win on a soggy Saturday afternoon at Brown. All three Tiger goals came on penalty corners as Princeton ran its Ivy League record to 5-0 this season with games left against Harvard and Penn.
Princeton is now 6-7 overall and 5-0 in the league. The Tigers earned their third shutout of the season against an Ivy opponent and their fourth overall. In five league games, Princeton has outscored its opponents 17-2.
The Tigers opened the scoring just 2:42 into the game when Paige Schmidt scored her first goal of the game and sixth goal of the season after senior Hillary Schmidt put the ball in play on the corner.
Eight minutes later, Paige Schmidt once again scored on a corner to give Princeton a 2-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game. Sophomore Nicole Ng and Hillary Schmidt assisted on the goal.
From that point, junior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth took control by making seven saves to keep Brown off the scoreboard. Princeton outshot Brown 23-14 in the game and had 11 penalty corners to Brown's seven. Brown goalkeeper Kristen Hodavance made eight saves in the loss.
Senior Lauren Ehrlichman scored on a penalty corner as time expired to make the final score 3-0. Paige Schmidt assisted on Ehrlichman's fifth goal of the season for her fifth point of the game. Princeton continues its weekend tomorrow afternoon when it visits No. 19 Boston University at 2 p.m.
