Princeton, N.J. - Princeton freshman Candi Arner was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 23 after her overtime game-winning goal Saturday at Harvard. Her goal not only won the game for Princeton, but also clinched the Ivy League championship for the Tigers.
The goal was the first of Arner's college career. An unlikely hero, Arner only had two shots on goal entering the game despite having started every Princeton game this season.
The championship is Princeton's 11th in a 12-year span, dating back to 1994, and 14th overall. The win also clinched a berth in the NCAA tournament for Princeton.
Arner's award marks the fourth time a Princeton player was honored with an Ivy League weekly award. Sophomore Paige Schmidt has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week twice and Lauren Ehrlichman has been named Player of the Week once.
Arner and the Tigers are back in action Friday night when they host Rutgers at 7 p.m.
