PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton women's soccer seniors Maija Garnaas and Romy Trigg-Smith have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II Second Team, the collegiate sports information directors' association announced Thursday. The award is the third for Garnaas and the second for Trigg-Smith, two players who have played in three straight NCAA Tournaments and helped lead the team to the Women's College Cup semifinals last year.
Garnaas, a molecular engineering major with a 3.69 GPA, has started all 15 games for the Tigers in the midfield, chipping in four assists. Trigg-Smith, a defender, carries a 3.69 GPA as an architecture major, scoring one goal while playing all 15 games, starting 14.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA and cannot be freshmen or first-year transfers. A total of 12 players were named to the first team in District II and 11 were named to the second team in the district, which covers Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The awards are nominated and voted on by collegiate sports information directors in that district.
