UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Princeton men's track team won four events and finished in second place behind Penn State in a triangular meet with the Nittany Lions and the UConn Huskies Saturday afternoon at the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track complex.
The Tigers finished with 124 points compared to 161 for the host Nittany Lions. UConn had 67 points.
Princeton had winning performances Saturday in the sprints, middle-distance, long-distance and the relays.
In the 500 meters, Richard Stewart dominated a strong second heat to win the race in 1:02.27, setting a new meet record in the event and just missing the track record set two seasons ago.
Ben Stern took the 3,000 meters for Princeton later in the meet, finishing in 8:25.45.
Ray Lenihan then continued his strong indoor season in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.07 for the best time in the prelims and then bettering that with an 8.02 to win the final and earn seven points for the Tigers.
Stewart then closed an outstanding day on the track for Princeton by running the third leg of the Tigers's 4X400 meter relay team, which won that race in 3:13.06. Justin Reed and Dan Saltzman ran the first two legs of that relay, with Mike Kopp anchoring the group.
