CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Despite a career-high 17 points from freshman Ali Prichard at Lavietes Pavilion on Friday night, the women's basketball team fell 71-49 to Harvard. Princeton's record drops to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in the league, while the Crimson improve to 18-7 overall and 10-2 in the conference. Prichard was the lone Tiger in double-figures and went 5-8 from outside the arc, tallying 17 points for the Princeton. After trailing 9-2 Princeton mounted a 13-point comeback that tied the game at 14 following two clean three-pointers from Prichard that hit nothing but nylon at the 8:52 mark of the first period.
Harvard's Jessica Holsey shifted the momentum back to the home team with five quick points off a three-pointer and a stolen pass that resulted in a layup. The Crimson jumped out to a 27-19 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first half.
Freshman Ariel Rogers scored the first four points of the second half, including a drive in the lane that resulted in a a reverse layup at the 17:46 mark. Princeton trailed 48-31 following a three-pointer from junior Katy O'Brien.
Prichard nailed two three-pointers on consecutive possessions to cut into Harvard's lead with 11:06 to play. The Tigers were down 50-39 following the threes.
Sophomore Shelly Slemp ended a seven-minute scoring drought for Princeton after making the back-end of a pair of free throws. The Tigers slipped to a 19-point deficit during the drought with six minutes remaining in the game. Slemp's trip to the charity stripe at 6:07 marked the first attempts from the Tigers in the game.
Sophomore Casey Lockwood scored four back-to-back points to give Princeton a lift but the 71-48 lead the Crimson built by the one-minute mark put the game out of reach for the Tigers.
Princeton earned only seven attempts from the foul line in the game, while Harvard was 13 of 15. The Tigers shot 41% from downtown netting seven threes in the game.
O'Brien tallied six assists in the game.The Tigers face Dartmouth on Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m.
