Tigers Finish Fifth Overall at NCAA Women's Rowing Championships

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Thanks to a strong second-place finish in the varsity eight final on Sunday, the Princeton women's rowing team placed fifth overall at the NCAA Division I Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma.
Under partly cloudy skies and a light breeze, the Tiger varsity eight finished in 6:22.80, just more than two seconds behind race winner California. Princeton finished in a tie for fifth place with Ivy rival Harvard with 39 points, with Cal winning the NCAA title thanks to a combined 67 points.
Also on Sunday, Tiger boats finished in fifth place in the petite finals in both the varsity fours and the second varsity eights.
The NCAA champion is dertermined by a combined score of three events---a varsity eight, a second varsity eight and a varsity four boat. Princeton earned 33 of its 39 points thanks to its second-place finish in the varsity eight race.
Virginia, Brown and Ohio State finished behind Cal in the standings, with the Cavaliers earning 63 points and Brown getting 49 points. Ohio State finished the regatta with 42 points.
