Women's Golf 11th After Two Rounds at NCAA Regionals

Gainesville, Fla. - The Princeton women's golf team shot rounds of 302 and 300 for a two-round total of 602 in play Friday at the 2005 NCAA East Regional at the University of Florida's Golf Course. Princeton's 602 is three strokes behind the 599 shot by eighth-place Vanderbilt, which currently holds the final transfer spot to the NCAA Championships in two weeks.
Ohio State sits first at 565, followed by Duke (575), Furman (582) and Pepperdine and Tulane tied for fourth at 585. Vanderbilt currently sits in the eighth spot at 599, which is the final transfer position as the top eight finishers advance to the 2005 NCAA Championships in Sunriver, Ore., in two weekends. Princeton is one of six schools with in eight strokes of the final transfer spot entering tomorrow's final round. The other teams in contention are Campbell (600), South Carolina (600), Princeton (602), Washington (604) and Miami (607).
Princeton was led individually by Meg Nakamura, who shot two rounds of 74 and sits +8 for the tournament and is tied for 24th. Avery Kiser also shot a 74 in Round 2 after a 76 in the first round. She is +1- and tied for 32nd. Sharla Cloutier tied for 46th after rounds of 77 and 75, and Taryn Haladay is +14 and tied for 58th after two rounds of 77. Annika Welander shot a 75 in Round 1, but an 83 in the second round has her tied for 81st at +18.
Princeton was seeded 17th in the field at the Regional and is currently ahead of Washington, UNC-Wilmington, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Miami, East Carolina and Coastal Carolina, all of which were seeded above the Tigers. The third and final round tees off tomorrow morning beginning at 7:30 a.m. Princeton's golfers begin at 8:30 a.m., on the 10th hole and will be paired with players from Campbell and Washington.
