HAMILTON, N.Y. - Effective hitting and continued solid play from its freshman class led the Princeton women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win at Colgate Saturday afternoon. Senior Lauren Grumet and freshman Kelli Grobe were each named to the all-tournament team as Princeton finished 2-1.
Princeton 3, Colgate 0
The Tigers finished the tournament with a winning record by sweeping the Raiders in three games. Princeton hit at least .340 in each game, and it peaked at .396 in a tight 30-25 win in the second game.
Freshman Jessica Hoffman led Princeton in kills against Colgate, putting away 14 balls while hitting .417. Classmate Parker Henritze, who led the team with five aces, recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs, and she chipped in at the net with four assisted blocks. The offense was paced again by senior setter Jenny Senske, who recorded 51 assists, while the defense was led by junior libero Jenny McReynolds' 31 digs.
Middle blocker Brittany Wood, who is now Princeton's most experienced middle following the graduation of Alex Brown, killed eight balls and hit .636 in the match. Classmate Grumet continues to be the go-to outside hitter, killing 13 balls.
Fordham 3, Princeton 0
The experienced Fordham Rams improved to 8-2 on the season by pulling out three tight games against Princeton in the Saturday opener fo the Colgate tournament. The match was Princeton's only one of the weekend when the Tigers didn't hit effectively; their .074 attack percentage was hampered by a negative hitting performance in the second game. Henritze led all Princeton players with 14 kills, while Grumet added nine. The entire roster saw time against the strong Fordham squad, which should help the players' experience by the time Ivy League season rolls around. Princeton will compete in the Rider Tournament next weekend, which opens 5:00 on Friday against the host Broncs.
