The Princeton women's volleyball team, led by MVP outside hitter Parker Henritze, won the Marist Invitational in its final tuneup before the Ivy League season opens Friday night at Dillon Gym against Penn.
Princeton won the weekend by going 9-2 in games and 3-0 in its trio of matches. The Tigers opened with a 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, which included an exciting 32-30 win in the fourth game. The Tigers then rallied from a 1-0 deficit to top the host Red Foxes 3-1, and they clinched the title with a dominant effort against Providence in a 3-0 win.
Henritze, who was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week after the first weekend and was named to the Rider Classic all-tournament team last weekend, was named the tournament MVP after a brilliant performance. She led the Tigers with 53 kills, 4.82 per game, and her .339 attack percentage was tops among all non-middles for Princeton. She averaged 2.73 digs per game, second only to junior libero Jenny McReynolds, who also made the all-tournament team after averaging 6.82 digs per game. Henritze also led the team with 10 aces and six blocks.
Senior outside hitter Lauren Grumet was the third member of the all-tournament team. She averaged 2.45 kills per game and 2.27 digs per game, and she chipped in with six aces of her own.
For the weekend, Princeton hit .270 and limited its opponents to a .140 attack percentage. The Tigers also averaged 2.4 more digs per game and 2.9 more assists. Senior setter Jenny Senske paced the Tiger offense with 12.45 assists per game.
