Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss At Brown, Faces Crucial Road Test At Yale Saturday
October 20, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
Despite another brilliant night by Lindsay Ensign, the Ivy League leader in kills and hitting percentage, the Princeton women's volleyball team suffered another Friday night Ivy road loss. Two weeks after watching its 11-0 start end in a 3-0 loss at Dartmouth, the Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision at Brown. The loss is Princeton's second in the Ivy League and sets up a critical match Saturday at Yale (4 p.m.).
Princeton is now 14-2 overall, 4-2 in the Ivy League. Brown improved to 7-12, 3-4 in the league, by earning a 30-20, 23-30, 30-27, 30-19 home win. Yale defeated Penn Friday night by a 3-0 score and is now 7-0 in the league.
Ensign recorded 24 kills with only five errors for a .452 attack percentage and added five blocks and five digs in the loss, but ineffective hitting in other positions hurt Princeton in this one. Starting outside hitters Parker Henritze and Sheena Donohue combined for 22 kills, but the team as a whole had 35 errors and hit only .119 for the match. Junior Emily Turner did all she could to lead the defense with 26 digs, but Brown had two players with at least 20 digs to keep the Princeton offense from ever truly getting on track.
Princeton, which also lost at Brown last year, now needs to defeat Yale to maintain control of its own destiny. The Bulldogs swept the season series last year, including a 3-1 win in New Haven.
