Princeton, Clarkson Skate to 1-1 Tie
October 28, 2006 | Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON -- The ninth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team completed a three-point league weekend with a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon against Clarkson at Baker Rink. Princeton remained unbeaten and is now 2-0-2 on the season.
In a mostly defensive battle, each team scored one time, then it was a show for the goaltenders who kept the scorers silent for the third period and overtime. Clarkson opened the scoring in the first period when Ashley Shaidle scored on a delayed Princeton penalty. Carlee Eusepi took a point shot that was well wide of the net, but the rebound bounced back to the crease and Shaidle got to it before sophomore goaltender Kristen Young could cover it up and gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.
Princeton evened the score in the second period with a power-play goal late. Senior Laura Watt's shot from the point was blocked eight to senior Kim Pearce on the doorstep who buried it into the net for her third goal of the season. Junior Marykate Oakley assisted on the goal for her team-leading sixth point of the season.
Princeton finished the game 1-4 with the player-advantage while Clarkson was 0-7 on the power play. Clarkson outshot Princeton 30-24.
Young made 29 saves in the tie, a day after she made 46 in a win over St. Lawrence. Clarkson's Kira Hurley made 23 saves.
