Women's Soccer Joins In on Race for the Cure

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Members of the Princeton women's soccer program competed in the New Jersey Race for the Cure, Sun., Oct. 29 on the Bristol Meyers Squibb campus south of Princeton, running in the 5K event sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Tiger junior Melissa Whitley finished ninth in the race as the Princeton contingent ran in honor of one of its Academic-Athletic Fellows, Karen Jezierny, Princeton University's Director of Public Affairs, who is a three-year breast cancer survivor.
"We were really happy to be able to support Karen," Princeton head coach Julie Shackford said. "It is always good to get our student-athletes into the community, and it is especially exciting to be able to be a part of anything that will help in the cure for cancer."
The race came a day after Princeton defeated Cornell, 1-0, in Ithaca, N.Y., a win that was Princeton's third straight, all shutouts. The Tigers will close the season Sat., Nov. 4 against Penn at Lourie-Love Field.
