Women's Volleyball Suffers First Loss At Dartmouth
October 06, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team has had its fair share of tight matches at Dartmouth, but before Friday night, the Tigers always found somebody to step up and save them. That player wasn't there, though, in Princeton's first loss of the season, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Big Green. Princeton falls to 11-1, 1-1 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth improves to 7-6, 1-2 in league play.
All three games were close, but the Big Green prevailed 30-27 in each game. Effective hitting paced Dartmouth thoughout the match; despite a respectible offensive showing for the Tigers, who hit .254 in the match, it was Dartmouth's .309 attack percentage that keyed the way for a win.
The win wasted a spectacular offensive performance from Lindsay Ensign, who killed 18 of 25 balls with only one error and hit .680 for the match. Setter Bailey Robinson had 39 assists and hit .571 on her own, while middle Jessica Hoffmann hit .375 with no errors in the match.
Dartmouth only had 16 errors in the match and hit above .300 in two games, including a match-best .333 in the opener. Princeton will look to get back into the Ivy win column Saturday at 4:00 when it takes on Harvard at 4 p.m.
