Tigers Host Top-Ranked Maryland on Tuesday Night

The Princeton field hockey team opens a seven-game homestand on Tuesday night against top-ranked Maryland at 7 p.m.
Both teams enter the weekend following 2-0 losses on Saturday. Princeton had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday at 10th-ranked Connecticut. The Huskies opened the scoring 2:27 into the contest and held the 1-0 lead most of the way before adding an insurance goal in the closing minutes. With the loss, Princeton fell to 6-4 overall. The Tigers have still won six of eight games however following an 0-2 start to the season.
Princeton had the week off from Ivy League play and remains 4-0 in the league. Princeton continues to rank atop the Ivy League standings tied with Brown (3-0). Yale sits third with just one loss, but that loss did come at the hands of Princeton. Princeton and Brown meet in the Tigers' next Ivy League game, which comes on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium.
Princeton, which had scored 18 goals in its three games prior to Saturday's shutout loss, will hope to find its offense again on Tuesday night. Sophomore Katie Kinzer continues to lead Princeton in scoring and is followed closely by sophomore Holly McGarvie, sophomore Sarah Reinprecht and freshman Tina Bortz.
Tuesday's game will be Princeton's sixth this season against a ranked opponent and its fourth against a top-10 team. Princeton is currently 1-4 in those games, defeating No. 17 William & Mary.
Princeton is 4-10-2 all-time against Maryland, and has a 4-2-1 lead at Princeton. Maryland has won eight straight games in the series, including a 5-1 win last season, in which Paige Schmidt scored the lone Tiger goal.
Maryland is 12-1 overall and enters Tuesday's game following its first loss of the season, a 2-0 loss to Duke on Saturday at home. Maryland had won its first 12 games of 2006 and coupled with nine-straight wins to cap 2005, had won 21 consecutive games.
After Tuesday night's game, Princeton returns to its Ivy schedule on Saturday against Brown. Princeton hosts Hofstra the following afternoon.
