HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Princeton women's hockey team ran its season-opening unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon at Colgate. Three Tigers scored in the win as Princeton improved to 8-0-2 and earned a league sweep for the second weekend in a row.
Princeton broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period when sophomore Katherine Dineen notched her first goal of the season from the point. Junior Brittany Salmon gave the Tigers a two-goal lead in the third before Colgate added a late power-play goal to close the gap in the game's final two minutes.
Princeton opened the scoring 3:01 into the game when junior Sonja Novak scored her first goal of the season when she scored from right in front. Sophomore Christine Foster and senior Allison Ralph assisted on the goal. Colgate evened the score midway through the period when Carly McNaughton scored her sixth goal of the season.
The Tigers regained the lead with 3:14 left in the second period on Dineen's goal. Senior Kate Hession and freshman Melanie Wallace assisted on the goal. The Tigers added some insurance, which it turned out to be the game winner, seven minutes into the third period when Salmon scored from junior Lizzie Keady and Wallace, who notched her second assist of the game.
Colgate got back within one in the final two minutes of the period when Elin Brown scored on the power play to make the score 3-2. Colgate took three shots in the final 1:34 as the Raiders looked to even the score but Princeton sophomore Kristen Young stopped all three as the Tigers held on for the win.
Young made 37 saves for the win, while Elayna Hamashuk made 23 saves in the loss.
