Kiernan Wins ECAC Cross Country Championship Race; Tigers Finish Fourth
November 18, 2006 | Women's Cross Country
Freshman Reilly Kiernan finished the five kilometers in 17:56.9, winning the race by nearly seven seconds, to lead the Princeton women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the 22nd ECAC Cross Country Championships held Saturday at New York City's Van Cortlandt Park.
While Princeton's top seven runners weren't in New York as they prepare for Monday's NCAA championship meet, Kiernan was still impressive in her race victory as the only runner in the race to finish in less than 18 minutes.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 91, behind race winner Cornell, William & Mary and Villanova.
Princeton's senior class of runners helped the Tigers to that fourth-place finish. Senior Rachel Farnsworth was the Tigers' second finisher, placing 16th in a time of 18:36, while classmates Jen Johnson and Ali Warren finished right next to each other in 24th and 25th place.
Junior Kim Bonner was Princeton's final scorer in the race, finishing in 32nd place in a time of 18:48.
Princeton was running at the Van Cortlandt site for the second time in three weeks. The Tigers won their first Heptagonal championship since 1980 at the same course Oct. 27.
