Harvard Shuts Out Princeton 5-0
November 25, 2006 | Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON -- Seventh-ranked Harvard used three goals in the second period and two in the third to defeat the eighth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Baker Rink. Jenny Brine led all skaters with three points in the game.
Princeton was not without its chances as the Tigers outplayed and outshot the Crimson 15-9 in the opening period. Senior Kim Pearce had six shots in the game and sophomore Katherine Dineen had five, but none of the Tigers' 30 shots on goal was able to crack Harvard netminder Christina Kessler.
Harvard broke the stalemate with a 4-on-4 goal at 5:19 of the second period. Julie Chu skated up the off wing and fed Brine in front for her 14th goal of the season. Harvard made the score 2-0 at 10:29 when Katie Johnston scored and Sarah Wilson made the score 3-0 with 3:25 left in the period when she backhanded a rebound into the Princeton goal. Both Johnston and Wilson's goal came on the power play.
Harvard added two goals in the final period. First, at 8:52, Chu had the puck bounce to her in front and she scored in the top right corner and at 12:11 Brine collected her second goal of the game after a scrum in front of the Princeton goal.
Kessler made 30 saves for the win while Princeton sophomore Brittany Parisi made 26 saves in the loss.
Princeton is now 8-2-2 overall and 8-2-1 in ECACHL play, while Harvard improved to 9-1-0 overall and in league play.
Princeton resumes play next weekend with two games at Mercyhurst.
