Wayne State Rallies to Defeat Women's Hockey

DETROIT -- Wayne State scored four unanswered goals to rally from a 2-0 deficit and defeated the ninth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team on Friday night at the City Ice Arena. Princeton outshot Wayne State 39-19 but could only score twice in the game. Senior Kim Pearce had a goal and an assist for Princeton.
After a scoreless first period Princeton took a lead 29 seconds into the second period on Pearce's seventh goal of the season, which was set up by senior Laura Watt. The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 at 15:51 of the second period when sophomore Annie Greenwood tallied her fourth goal of the season from Pearce.
Wayne State swung the momentum in its favor with a goal from Sam Poyton with 1:10 remaining in the second period and continued its strong play 3:18 into the second when Amanda Hungle evened the score. Wayne State scored the eventual game winner at 8:16 from Brandi Frakie and Poyton added an empty netter to reach the final margin.
Freshman goaltender Brittany Parisi made 15 saves for Princeton while Valery Turcotte stopped 37 shots for Wayne State, including 17 in the third period alone as the Tigers controlled play looking to even the score.
Princeton falls to 8-5-2 with the loss and will look for the series split when the teams skate tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
